Plain Cashmere Poncho from Nepal
Dry clean recommended. Store with natural cedar or neem leaves. Avoid direct sunlight and moisture.
Description
There is a particular silence to the high Himalayas, and the Pashmina weavers of Nepal have spent generations learning how to fold it into cloth. This poncho is woven from one hundred per cent pure Pashmina wool, sourced from the fine undercoat of the Changthangi goat that grazes the cold plateaus above four thousand metres. The fibre is among the softest and warmest that nature offers, and it arrives here in a clean, unadorned form that lets the quality of the yarn speak entirely for itself. Made to order in Kathmandu's weaving ateliers, each piece is worked on traditional handlooms where tension and touch are calibrated entirely by hand. The result is a cloth that feels almost weightless against the skin and yet holds warmth with quiet, steady conviction. Available in nine considered shades, from the bruised depth of Deep Lavender to the cool restraint of Pewter Gray, the palette suits both ceremony and contemplative everyday wear. Drape it loosely over a fine cotton kurta for an evening gathering, or let it settle over a plain merino sweater on a winter afternoon at home.

Behind this piece
High in the Himalayas, where the air is thin and the winters unforgiving, the craft of Pashmina weaving has endured for centuries. Nepal's artisans draw on a tradition shared with Kashmir, working fibres combed from the undercoat of Changthangi goats that graze above 14,000 feet. This poncho is woven from 100 per cent pure Pashmina, a fibre so fine it measures between 12 and 16 microns. The plain weave allows the wool's natural warmth and extraordinary softness to speak without ornament. Each piece is made to order, unhurried and intentional.
How to style
Drape this poncho over a straight-cut ivory kurta and slim cigarette trousers for an elevated winter lunch, grounding the look with tan leather kolhapuris. For cooler evenings, layer it over a turtleneck and wide-leg wool trousers in charcoal; a single oxidised silver cuff keeps the mood unfussy. The Deep Lavender colourway pairs beautifully with a silk anarkali in blush for a festive gathering, while Jet Black reads as effortlessly metropolitan over a midi dress. Let the poncho carry the occasion. Accessories need only whisper.
Fabric & care
Hand wash in cold water using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent formulated for fine wools or Pashmina. Do not wring or twist; press water out gently and roll the poncho in a clean towel to absorb excess moisture. Dry flat in shade, reshaping while damp. Never hang, as the weight will distort the weave. Store folded, wrapped in muslin or acid-free tissue, away from direct sunlight. Cedar blocks deter moths without the chemical residue of naphthalene. Treated with care, pure Pashmina softens and improves perceptibly with every season of wear.
