the story,

Behind this piece

Bandhani is among the oldest resist-dyeing traditions in India, practised for over five thousand years across Rajasthan and Gujarat. In Rajasthan, the craft is concentrated in Jodhpur, Jaipur, and Sikar, where artisans bind cotton or silk by hand into thousands of tiny knots before immersing the cloth in successive dye baths. The result is the characteristic constellation of dots that gives Bandhani its name, derived from the Sanskrit word for binding. This sari renders that ancient geometry in a shaded gradient of pink and yellow, a colour pairing long associated with Rajasthani festivity and desert light.

to wear it,

How to style

For a morning wedding or a Teej celebration, wear this sari in a classic Rajasthani seedha pallu drape and pair it with a raw silk blouse in deep gold. Kundan stud earrings and a single polki necklace will complement without competing. For a more relaxed afternoon gathering, try a simple nivi drape with a white cotton blouse and silver oxidised jhumkas. The woven border makes this sari equally suited to a festive puja setting; pair with kolhapuri flats in tan leather and a single thin gold bangle for quiet, considered elegance.

to last,

Fabric & care

Cotton breathes but it is also honest about neglect. Hand wash this sari separately in cold water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, as Bandhani dyes, though set during production, can bleed slightly in the first few washes. Do not wring; press the water out gently and dry in shade, away from direct sunlight, which fades gradient dyes over time. Iron on medium heat while the fabric is still slightly damp. Store folded in a clean muslin cloth, never in plastic, to allow the cotton to breathe and hold its shape across seasons.
