the story,

Behind this piece

Banaras has woven silk for over two thousand years, and its looms have long absorbed outside worlds into their own grammar. The Tibetan floral motifs on this fabric speak to that history of cultural exchange, the caravan routes that once carried Buddhist pilgrimage, trade, and visual vocabulary between the Gangetic plains and the high plateau. Woven on handlooms in the weaver quarters of Varanasi, the fabric belongs to a tradition where pattern is never merely decorative. The peach-fuzz ground, warm and luminous, gives these blossoms the quality of a fresco glimpsed at dusk.

to wear it,

How to style

Commission this fabric as an unlined anarkali kurta for a winter wedding, worn with raw-silk wide-leg trousers in ivory and silver kolhapuris. For something closer to evening, a draped blouse paired with a vintage Kanjeevaram saree in terracotta would let the peach read as a second sunset. During the day, a straight-cut kurta with a single strand of rose quartz and slip-on juttis keeps the look restrained and entirely intentional. The blossoms work best when the silhouette is clean and jewellery is singular, not layered.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure silk from Banaras handlooms requires dry cleaning for structured garments, though the fabric itself can be hand-washed gently in cold water using a pH-neutral, silk-specific detergent. Never wring or twist; press the water out softly and dry flat in shade away from direct sunlight, which fades silk irreversibly. Iron on the lowest setting while still slightly damp, on the reverse side only. Store loosely rolled in a soft muslin cloth rather than folded sharply, as crease lines can weaken the threads over time. Properly tended, this silk deepens beautifully with age.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
