the story,

Behind this piece

Batik is among the oldest resist-dyeing traditions in the world, and its practice on wool-silk blends speaks to the particular ingenuity of Indian artisans who adapted a technique long associated with cotton. The wax-resist method demands patience: each application of molten wax is deliberate, each dye bath a negotiation between fibre and pigment. On this pale celadon ground, the plain batik finish lets the colour itself carry the narrative, a quiet wash of green that recalls the inner light of sea glass. The wool-silk weave gives the stole a drape both weighted and luminous.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear this stole loosely folded over a cream handloom kurta in chanderi or mul cotton for a refined daytime gathering. For cooler evenings, knot it softly at the throat over a charcoal wool shawl-collar jacket and let the celadon speak against the dark ground. At a diaspora wedding abroad, drape it across the shoulder over a plain ivory or blush silk sari blouse and skirt. Complement with oxidised silver jewellery: a beaten-silver cuff or jhumkas in muted finish. Pointed-toe juttis in ivory or taupe complete each of these combinations with quiet authority.

to last,

Fabric & care

Hand-wash separately in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral wool wash or a small measure of baby shampoo. Do not wring; press gently between two clean towels to remove excess water. Lay flat to dry in shade, reshaping while damp to preserve the drape. The silk component is particularly sensitive to prolonged sun exposure, which may shift the batik-dyed celadon tone. Store loosely folded, never compressed, in a breathable muslin bag. A sliver of cedar or a sachet of dried lavender nearby will discourage moth damage without chemical residue.
