the story,

Behind this piece

The paisley, known in the subcontinent as the boteh or ambi, carries centuries of Mughal memory within its teardrop curve. Believed to represent a cypress tree bent by wind, or the outline of a mango, it travelled from Kashmiri shawl looms to the embroidery frames of artisan ateliers across Lucknow and Rajasthan. These patches render that ancient motif in art silk and glass beads, a technique rooted in zardozi's decorative vocabulary. Each bead is placed to catch light, transforming a simple border application into a small, considered act of adornment passed down through generations of needleworkers.

to wear it,

How to style

Sew these as wrist-cuffs on the sleeves of a plain ivory or deep teal kurta for a festive gathering. Placed symmetrically at the hem of a cotton sharara, they elevate separates worn for mehendi or a daytime wedding function. For a contemporary approach, apply them to the collar edges of a structured linen jacket worn with slim churidar trousers and kolhapuri sandals. Complement with oxidised silver jhumkas or antique-gold bangles to echo the tonal warmth of the beadwork. The paisley motif sits easily alongside both Lucknowi chikankari and Rajasthani block print textiles.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk is a lustrous woven fibre that softens with careful handling and loses its sheen under harsh conditions. Hand wash the finished garment in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, keeping agitation gentle to protect the bead threads. Never wring or twist. Roll in a clean cotton towel to remove excess moisture, then dry flat in shade. Iron on the reverse side only, on the lowest setting, avoiding direct contact with beads. Store folded in muslin or acid-free tissue, away from humidity and direct light, to preserve both the silk's brightness and the integrity of each bead setting.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
