the story,

Behind this piece

Block printing on cotton is among India's oldest textile traditions, its roots traced to the workshops of Rajasthan and Gujarat, where craftsmen carved intricate motifs into teak and sheesham wood before pressing them, by hand, into natural dyes. The bird-and-leaf vocabulary on this co-ord set belongs to that same grammar: patterns drawn from garden walls, temple friezes, and forest margins. Orchid petal tones, soft and barely-there, were historically achieved through flower-based pigments. Each repeat carries the slight irregularity that is the mark of a human hand, not a machine.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear the set together for a Sunday farmers market or a lakeside brunch, adding tan leather kolhapuris and oxidised silver chaandbaalis. Separate the pieces for greater versatility: pair the printed top with wide-leg ivory linen trousers for a work-from-home afternoon that still feels considered. The trouser alone works beautifully beneath a fine white cotton kurta for a more layered, literary evening. A woven jute tote and minimal gold studs keep the palette grounded. Avoid heavy embellishment; the block print is the conversation.

to last,

Fabric & care

Wash in cold water by hand, using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent. Pure cotton holds its weave best when not wrung, so press the water out gently and lay flat to dry in shade. Direct sunlight will lift the orchid tones prematurely. Iron on a medium setting, slightly damp, to release creases without distressing the printed surface. Store folded, not hung, to prevent the cotton from stretching at the shoulders. With this treatment, the fabric softens gracefully over years and the print deepens rather than fades.
