the story,

Behind this piece

Banaras has woven gold into its silks for over five centuries, and the zari tradition that defines this sari traces its lineage to the looms of Varanasi's Muslim weaver families, the Ansaris, who refined the art of interlacing metallic thread with silk warps under Mughal patronage. The large floral motifs here belong to the kadhwa weaving technique, where each design is woven individually into the body rather than cut from a broader pattern. Rendered in art silk with genuine zari highlights, the olive-green ground gives this classic idiom a quietly contemporary sensibility.

to wear it,

How to style

For a winter wedding, pair this sari with a full-sleeved raw silk blouse in deep burgundy and antique gold jhumkas from Rajasthan. At a festive lunch or Diwali gathering, try a contrast boat-neck blouse in ivory tissue and block-heeled mojris in tan leather. For a semi-formal office event or cultural programme, drape it in the classic Nivi style with a fitted high-neck blouse in the same olive tone, and keep jewellery restrained, perhaps a single strand of oxidised silver. The muted green ground earns its elegance across every register of occasion.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk carries the lustre of pure silk but requires equally gentle handling. Dry-clean this sari for best results, particularly to protect the zari threads, which can tarnish or stiffen if exposed to water and detergent. If hand-washing is necessary, use cold water with a mild, pH-neutral cleanser and do not wring or twist the fabric. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight. Store loosely folded in a pure cotton muslin cloth, never in plastic, and place a small packet of cloves nearby to deter silverfish. Re-fold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease lines.
