the story,

Behind this piece

Bangalore has long held a quieter place in India's textile map, distinct from the louder weaving corridors of Kanchipuram or Pochampally, yet no less considered in its craft. This hand-woven pure cotton carries the unhurried sensibility of that tradition: a ground of warm off-white, interrupted at intervals by embellished bootis that speak to a decorative vocabulary inherited across generations. The boti motif, small and deliberate, has roots in Mughal-era textile ornamentation and has since found its way into southern weaving practice, where it is rendered with restraint rather than excess.

to wear it,

How to style

Cut this fabric into a straight-kurta with a mandarin collar for a summer wedding, and wear it alongside oxidised silver jhumkas and Kolhapuri flats. For a more structured reading, tailor it as a sleeveless anarkali with cotton palazzo trousers in ivory; the bootis will catch movement elegantly. The fabric also lends itself beautifully to a relaxed co-ord set: a loose shirt and wide-leg trousers worn to a daytime cultural event or art-gallery opening, finished with wooden beads and tan leather sandals that let the weave remain the conversation.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure cotton breathes and rewards gentle handling. Wash this fabric by hand in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, avoiding any wringing that distorts the weave structure. If machine-washing is necessary, use a delicate cycle inside a mesh laundry bag. Dry flat in shade; direct sunlight will lift the warm off-white tone toward a harsher yellow over time. Iron on a medium cotton setting while still slightly damp to ease the threads back into alignment. Store folded loosely in breathable muslin, away from damp walls, to preserve the hand-woven integrity for years ahead.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
