about the piece,

Description

Some prints carry the memory of the bazaar within them, layered with movement and colour before a single step is taken. This three-piece set opens with a long cotton jacket rendered in the kalka motif, a paisley-derived form whose roots stretch through the textile traditions of Mughal courts and into the block-printing ateliers of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The multicolour treatment brings warmth and rhythm to the print, allowing each curved teardrop form to breathe against the cotton ground. Beneath it, a royal-blue satin crop-top and coordinated skirt lend the ensemble a deliberate contrast: the matte, earthy character of printed cotton held in conversation with the cool luminosity of satin. Together, the three pieces compose a silhouette that reads as considered and festive without effort. The notch collar on the jacket is a quietly modern choice, anchoring the traditional print in a contemporary cut that suits day celebrations and evening gatherings alike. Wear the jacket open over the satin co-ord for an effortless layered look, or close it fully for a more unified, formal presence. Either way, the kalka does the speaking.

the story,

Behind this piece

The kalka, known in the West as paisley, carries centuries of subcontinental memory. Its teardrop form appears across Kashmiri shawls, Lucknowi chikankari grounds, and the block-printed cottons of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Here, the motif is rendered through screen or block printing on breathable cotton, repeating in the multicolour palette that has defined festive Indian textiles for generations. Paired with royal-blue satin, the composition draws a deliberate line between craft tradition and contemporary silhouette. The long notch-collar jacket anchors the set in a layering vocabulary that feels both rootedly Indian and thoroughly modern.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear the full three-piece set for a rooftop mehendi or festive lunch, finishing with oxidised silver jhumkas and block-heeled kolhapuris. For an evening gathering, remove the jacket and let the satin crop-top and skirt stand alone, adding a single kundan choker and strappy gold heels. On quieter days, layer the printed cotton jacket over slim ivory trousers or a white kurta, treating it as a statement cover-up. A potli bag in complementary cobalt or antique gold completes each reading of the outfit without competing with the kalka print.

to last,

Fabric & care

Cotton and satin respond very differently to water and heat, so treat them separately. Hand-wash the cotton jacket in cool water with a mild, colour-safe detergent; avoid soaking, which causes printed colours to bleed. The satin top and skirt should be dry-cleaned or, if hand-washed, handled gently without wringing. Dry the cotton flat in shade to preserve print vibrancy. Iron the jacket on a medium setting with a pressing cloth. Store all three pieces folded in soft muslin, away from direct light, to protect the satin sheen and the integrity of the print over time.
