the story,

Behind this piece

The Jamawar tradition traces its roots to the Kashmir Valley, where court weavers once spent years completing a single shawl on the kani loom, each colour change requiring a separate wooden spool. The word itself speaks of a garment for the body, "jama" meeting "war," a cloth wide enough to wrap royalty. This robe translates that centuries-old vocabulary of interlocking paisleys and blooming boteh into a wearable canvas. Rendered here in rayon to honour the visual weight of the original without its formality, it carries the grammar of Kashmiri weaving into contemporary dressing.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear it belted over wide-leg ivory palazzos for a languid, at-home elegance that photographs beautifully at festive gatherings. For a more composed evening, layer it open over a fitted silk kurta in a single colour drawn from the robe's multicolour ground, anchoring the look with oxidised silver jhumkas. On cooler days, close it fully and add block-printed Kolhapuri sandals and a structured potli clutch. The robe's dense floral and paisley field means accessories should remain quiet; let one element speak and allow the weave's own conversation to carry the rest.

to last,

Fabric & care

Rayon breathes well but dislikes agitation. Hand wash in cool water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, working the fabric softly rather than wringing or twisting it. Rinse once, support the full weight of the wet garment as you lift it, and roll it briefly in a clean cotton towel to remove excess water. Dry flat in shade, never on a wire hanger while damp, as the fibre will stretch at the shoulders. Once dry, press on a low setting with a pressing cloth between iron and fabric. Store loosely folded, away from direct sunlight.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
