Behind this piece
Gota Patti, the art of applying ribbon-thin strips of gold and silver metallic cloth onto fabric, traces its lineage to the royal ateliers of Rajasthan, particularly Jaipur and Shekhawati. Historically reserved for bridal and ceremonial wear, this embellishment technique has long been practised by the Manihar and Darzi communities, who perfected the tension and placement of each border over generations. Here, a restrained strip of Gota Patti at the neckline becomes the single note that lifts an otherwise breezy, floral-printed silhouette from the everyday into the considered. Craft worn lightly is still craft honoured deeply.
How to style
For a daytime puja or festive family gathering, pair the Prairie Sunset colourway with tan Kolhapuri chappals and a single strand of uncut polki. The Rosebloom variant responds beautifully to ivory Lucknowi chikan dupatta draped across one shoulder, elevating it toward a mehendi or intimate baithak. For a relaxed evening affair, layer either shade under a fine Chanderi bandhgala jacket in ivory and finish with mojris in natural leather. The straight-cut pajama keeps the proportions clean throughout, allowing the Gota Patti neckline to carry the entire visual conversation without competition.
Fabric & care
Cotton-polyester blends breathe with the cotton but hold form through the polyester, so treat them accordingly. Machine wash on a gentle, cool cycle, thirty degrees or below, turning the kurta inside out to protect both the print and the Gota Patti trim from abrasion. Avoid wringing; press out water gently and dry flat in shade to prevent colour migration in the printed sections. Iron on medium heat with a pressing cloth placed over the neck embellishment. Store folded, not hung, to preserve the pajama drawstring elasticity. With attentive care this set will carry its colour across many seasons.
