the story,

Behind this piece

Floral embroidery on silk carries centuries of courtly memory. The motifs on this suit draw from a tradition in which flowers were never merely decorative but carried symbolic weight, each petal shaped by a needle held at a particular angle, a particular tension. Brocade weaving, associated with the looms of Varanasi, involves the interlacing of supplementary weft threads to build pattern directly into cloth. The mahogany-rose ground deepens the florals, letting the brocade dupatta read as its own composition. Silk receives dye with an intensity that cotton cannot match, which is why these colours hold.

to wear it,

How to style

For an afternoon wedding, pair this suit with ivory block-heeled mules and a single strand of polki or uncut diamond jewellery; let the dupatta drape loosely off one shoulder. For a festive family gathering, wear it with oxidised silver jhumkas and flat kolhapuri sandals in tan, keeping the wrists bare. For a formal evening occasion, draw the dupatta into a neat pleat across the chest, add pointed-toe metallic heels in bronze or gold, and choose a slim kundan choker. The flared palazzo silhouette suits a confident, unhurried stride in each of these contexts.

to last,

Fabric & care

Silk loses tensile strength when agitated. Dry-clean this suit at first, particularly while the embroidery threads are still fully anchored. If hand-washing becomes necessary, use cold water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent and never wring the fabric. Rinse once, support the full weight of the wet cloth, and lay flat on a clean cotton towel to dry away from sunlight. Iron on a low silk setting with a pressing cloth between iron and surface. Store folded in a muslin cloth, never in plastic, and keep silica gel nearby to deter humidity and insect damage.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
