Magenta Pure Silk Kashmiri Kurti with Floral Aari Embroidery by Hand
Dry clean only. Store folded in a soft muslin pouch away from direct sunlight to keep the sheen alive.
Behind this piece
Aari embroidery takes its name from the hooked needle, the aari, that Kashmiri artisans have wielded for centuries across the Vale. Distinct from the counted-thread precision of sozni, aari work moves freely across the fabric in flowing, uninterrupted lines, allowing the craftsman to render petals, tendrils, and blossoms with a painter's ease. On pure silk, the needle finds particular sympathy; the weave accepts the thread gently, and the finished floral motifs carry a luminosity that cotton or georgette cannot replicate. This magenta kurti belongs to a living tradition that Kashmir has kept alive through periods of great upheaval and change.
How to style
Wear this kurti with wide-leg ivory silk palazzo trousers for a festive lunch that reads elegant without effort. For an evening gathering, pair it with a fine-wool ivory churidar and add uncut polki earrings in gold; the magenta will hold its own. A third reading works beautifully for a semi-formal office occasion: layer the kurti over slim straight-cut trousers in deep charcoal and finish with block-heeled juttis in nude leather. In each case, keep the dupatta aside; the embroidery is complete in itself and deserves clear, uncluttered space to breathe.
Fabric & care
Pure silk is a protein fibre of considerable delicacy. Hand-wash this kurti alone in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, agitating gently for no more than two minutes. Do not wring; press the water out softly between clean towels. Dry flat in shade, never in direct sunlight, which will fade magenta silk irreversibly. Iron on a low silk setting with a thin cotton cloth placed between iron and fabric, paying particular care around the aari embroidery. Store folded in soft muslin, away from damp and cedar, and the silk will reward you across many seasons.
