the story,

Behind this piece

Dupion silk carries within its irregular slub a memory of the cocoon itself: two silkworms spinning together, their threads intertwined and inseparable. The embroidered patch border on each of these shopper bags speaks to a tradition of applied textile embellishment practised across Bengal and Varanasi ateliers, where borders are conceived as complete compositions in their own right. Here, that vocabulary is transposed onto a utility object, giving the everyday bag the considered presence of a textile collector's piece. Three bags in a single lot invite layering, gifting, and the quiet pleasure of repetition with variation.

to wear it,

How to style

Carry the first bag alongside a Kantha-stitch kurta in muted cotton for a farmer's market or a Sunday book fair. Pair the second with a Chanderi silk saree and block-heeled kolhapuris for a daytime cultural event, letting the dupion's natural sheen echo the saree's luminosity. Reserve the third for gifting, nested with a folded stole inside. Across all three occasions, opt for oxidised silver jewellery rather than gold; it honours the handmade quality of the embroidered patch without competing with its intricate line work.

to last,

Fabric & care

Dupion silk demands restraint. Dry-clean where possible, particularly given the embroidered patch border, whose threads may shift under water tension. If hand-washing is necessary, use cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent and handle without wringing. Roll the bag in a clean cotton towel to remove excess moisture, then reshape and air-dry flat, away from direct sunlight, which fades dupion's characteristic lustre irreversibly. Store each bag separately in a breathable muslin or cotton pouch. Avoid plastic, which traps humidity and encourages mildew in silk fibres over time.
