the story,

Behind this piece

Leheria is the ancient art of diagonal stripe-dyeing that belongs almost entirely to Rajasthan, and Jodhpur is among its most devoted keepers. The word itself derives from the Rajasthani for wave, and the technique earns that name honestly: lengths of chiffon are rolled tightly on the diagonal, bound at intervals, and submerged in successive dye baths to produce those clean, travelling stripes. Traditionally practised before the monsoon festival of Teej, leheria carries a ceremonial sensibility. Each dupatta in this lot of ten arrives as its own colour story, shaped by resist, repetition, and an unhurried hand.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape one over an ivory or cream anarkali for a festive afternoon gathering, letting the diagonal stripes travel across the shoulder and down the back. For a contemporary pairing, knot a dupatta loosely at the neck over wide-leg palazzo trousers and a fitted kurta, then anchor the look with silver oxidised jhumkas from Rajasthan. On quieter days, fold a single piece as a head-wrap or carry it as a stole over a plain linen suit. Kolhapuri sandals or block-heeled mojris complete any of these without competing with the pattern's inherent movement.

to last,

Fabric & care

Chiffon is a sheer, lightly twisted fabric that rewards gentleness above all else. Hand-wash each dupatta separately in cool water with a mild detergent formulated for delicates, as machine agitation can pull the weave and distort the tie-dyed boundaries. Never wring; instead, press gently between two clean towels to absorb moisture. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which fades plant-based and reactive dyes over time. Store each piece folded loosely in muslin or tissue, never compressed beneath heavier textiles. Treated this way, the stripes will hold their clarity for many seasons.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
