the story,

Behind this piece

The peacock has moved through Indian visual culture for centuries, from Mughal miniature borders to the carved friezes of Chidambaram. Its feather, with that luminous eye at the tip, became a motif of devotion, courtly grace, and the arrival of monsoon. Here, the motif is rendered in flat print on fluid rayon, a fabric that carries pigment with particular clarity, allowing the iridescent quality of the original feather to translate into pattern. The five colourways, ranging from Flame Scarlet to Phantom Black, each shift the mood of the same motif from festive to quietly dramatic.

How to style

In Flame Scarlet or Vivid Blue, pair this skirt with a white cotton or chanderi short kurti and block-printed mojris for a festive afternoon gathering. For Phantom Black, consider a fitted silk blouse in ivory or gold and oxidised silver earrings with peacock motifs to echo the print deliberately. The Maize and Snow White colourways suit a relaxed brunch or cultural event; here a simple linen top tucked loosely at the waist and tan leather kolhapuris keep the silhouette grounded without competing with the print's movement.

Fabric & care

Rayon is a semi-synthetic fibre with a natural drape, and it demands measured handling. Hand wash in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, keeping agitation gentle to prevent the weave from distorting. Do not wring; instead press the fabric softly between a dry towel to remove excess water. Dry flat or on a wide hanger away from direct sunlight, which will fade the print over time. Iron on a low setting while slightly damp. Store folded, not on a hanger, to prevent the fabric from stretching at the waistband over long periods.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
