the story,

Behind this piece

Sozni is one of Kashmir's most disciplined needle traditions, practised in the old mohallas of Srinagar and the quieter lanes of Kanihama by craftsmen who inherit their stitch vocabulary across generations. The word itself derives from the Persian for needle, and the work demands it: single-strand silk thread drawn through pure Pashmina in stitches so fine they appear woven rather than embroidered. This shawl's lavender-blue ground is a colour long associated with Kashmiri spring, the flowering of iris along the Dal Lake margins, rendered now in wool spun from Changthangi goat fibre at altitude.

to wear it,

How to style

Worn loosely over an ivory Lucknawi kurta with narrow churidar, this shawl becomes its own occasion. For a winter wedding, drape it across the shoulders of a deep-teal or midnight-navy Banarasi silk sari, secured with a single silver brooch at the collarbone. The lavender-blue reads beautifully against warm gold jewellery, particularly kundan or carved citrine. For a quieter afternoon, fold it into a wide stole over tailored ivory trousers and pointed-toe kitten heels, letting the Sozni embroidery face outward as unambiguous artistry.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure Pashmina requires cold water and absolute patience. Hand-wash in water no warmer than lukewarm, using a mild wool-safe or baby shampoo, with no wringing or bunching. Support the shawl's full weight as you lift it from the water. Press gently between two clean dry towels, then lay flat on a cotton surface to air-dry away from direct sunlight. Store folded, never hung, to prevent fibre distortion. Cedar blocks deter moths far more safely than mothballs. With considered care, Pashmina softens and deepens with each season, becoming only more itself.
