the story,

Behind this piece

Aari embroidery takes its name from the hooked needle, the aari, that craftsmen in the Kashmir Valley have wielded for centuries. Worked entirely by hand on woollen ground cloth, each motif follows a tradition rooted in Mughal-era garden imagery: the chinar leaf, the boteh, the stylised bloom. This jacket carries those forms in a dense floral and paisley composition, rendered in the vivid palette that Kashmiri needle workers have long reserved for their most ambitious pieces. It is, in the truest sense, wearable cartography of one of India's most tenacious craft lineages.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear this jacket over a fine ivory or cream churidar kurta for a Diwali gathering, grounding the red with raw silk mojaris in warm gold. For a winter wedding as a guest, layer it above a heavy Benarasi tissue saree in deep teal, letting the embroidery read as a statement blouse-cover. On a cool autumn afternoon, pair it with well-cut straight-leg trousers in caramel wool, ankle boots, and a single strand of uncut Kashmiri ruby beads. All three looks benefit from restraint elsewhere: the jacket speaks loudest when the rest of the composition is quiet.

to last,

Fabric & care

Wool absorbs moisture and odour naturally, meaning this jacket needs far less frequent washing than you might expect. When cleaning is necessary, hand-wash in cold water with a gentle, pH-neutral shampoo, supporting the full weight of the fabric throughout. Never wring or twist. Roll gently in a clean dry towel to remove excess water, then reshape and dry flat in shade. Steam lightly to refresh embroidery; never press directly with a hot iron. Store folded, not hung, to prevent shoulder distortion, wrapped in a breathable cotton muslin with a cedar block to discourage moth damage.
