the story,

Behind this piece

Kim-khwab, meaning "little dream" in Persian, is among the most opulent of Banarasi weaving traditions, its roots reaching back to Mughal court patronage in the sixteenth century. This fabric carries that lineage forward through its dense brocaded surface, where gold-toned metallic threads are woven in rhythmic repeat across a polysilk ground. The Jojoba Silk finish lends a distinctive luminosity, softening the weight of the ornament without diminishing its grandeur. Varanasi's kaarigars, working on pit looms in narrow by-lanes near Madanpura and Peeli Kothi, sustain this vocabulary of interlocked motifs that no machine has yet replicated faithfully.

to wear it,

How to style

Cut this fabric into a structured anarkali kurta and pair it with cigarette trousers in deep ivory for a Diwali gathering that feels genuinely considered. Alternatively, commission a sleeveless blouse and drape six metres as a Banarasi-style saree, anchored with antique polki jewellery and kolhapuri heels in tan leather. For a fusion sensibility, a wide-legged palazzo suit in this brocade, worn with minimal oxidised silver earrings and block-printed dupatta in a contrasting ochre, moves effortlessly from a mehendi function into an evening reception without any change of dress.

to last,

Fabric & care

Polysilk carries the visual warmth of silk but requires gentle handling to preserve its sheen and the integrity of metallic brocade threads. Dry clean only; home washing, even on delicate cycles, risks distorting the woven motifs and dulling gold threads permanently. Never wring or twist the fabric. If steaming, hold the iron at a distance and use a pressing cloth between the iron and the brocade surface. Store rolled rather than folded to prevent permanent crease lines across the raised weave. Keep away from prolonged sunlight to maintain colour depth and metallic brilliance across years of use.
