Behind this piece
The Jamawar tradition carries centuries of accumulated memory, its paisley motifs descending from the boteh forms that once adorned the courtly shawls of Kashmir. Ludhiana, long established as Punjab's textile capital, has translated that ornamental language into accessible weaves, bringing Jamawar's characteristic border play to a broader audience. Here, the plain core of the stole is a considered choice, allowing the paisley-laden border its full authority. The contrast between the calm, unadorned centre and the intricate margin is not a compromise; it is the design's entire argument.
How to style
In Atlantis or Green Lily, this stole drapes beautifully over an ivory Lucknowi kurta for a festive lunch, anchored by oxidised silver jhumkas. Clay and Dark Shadow read as effortlessly sophisticated against a charcoal wool blazer for winter travel or a gallery opening; finish with tan kolhapuris. Persian Jewel earns its name worn over a deep plum anarkali at a wedding reception, the paisley border framing the neckline with quiet ceremony. A single pearl bracelet is sufficient. All five colourways reward being worn loose, the border visible and unfolded.
Fabric & care
Acrylic fibres are forgiving, but they reward considered handling. Hand wash in cool water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, and avoid any wringing or twisting that could distort the woven border. Rinse gently and press the excess water out between two clean towels. Dry flat in shade, never on a direct heat source, as warmth can cause acrylic to lose its drape. Store folded, not hung, to prevent the fabric from stretching at the shoulders. Kept this way, the stole retains its body and the sharpness of its paisley border across many seasons.
