the story,

Behind this piece

Bagru, a quiet town on the outskirts of Jaipur in Rajasthan, has given its name to one of India's most unhurried printing traditions. Artisans here carve wooden blocks by hand and press them into natural dye pastes, coaxing repeat florals onto cloth with a rhythm unchanged for generations. This saree carries that lineage onto modal silk, a fibre prized for its fluid drape and breathable softness. The hunter-green ground, cool and considered, allows the printed motifs their full voice. Madhya Pradesh provides the finishing context, where textile traditions from neighbouring regions find thoughtful new expression.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear this saree in a Nivi drape with a raw-silk sleeveless blouse in ivory or warm biscuit to let the green read clearly. For a wedding reception or festive gathering, layer on oxidised silver jhumkas and a carved silver bangle rather than gold, since the earthy block-print temperament sits more naturally with silver. Flat Kolhapuri chappals in tan leather complete the look without competing. For a daytime cultural event or literary festival, tuck the pallu into a relaxed drape and pair with terracotta block-printed nagras for a considered, arts-conscious ensemble.

to last,

Fabric & care

Modal silk responds best to a cold-water hand wash using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent. Avoid wringing; instead, press the fabric gently between a dry towel to remove excess water. Dry flat or on a wide hanger away from direct sunlight, which can shift the natural dye tones over time. Iron on a low-silk setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the printed surface, protecting the block-printed motifs from flattening. Store folded in a soft muslin cloth rather than plastic, allowing the fibre to breathe and retain its lustre across seasons.
