Behind this piece
Cotton has clothed the subcontinent for millennia, and the block-printed floral traditions of Rajasthan and Gujarat carry that lineage into every yard. This honey-yellow co-ord set draws from the sun-drenched palette favoured by artisans of the Chhipa community, whose resist-printing and hand-block techniques have been passed through generations in towns like Bagru and Sanganer. The kaftan silhouette itself echoes older merchant-class ease, a garment shaped for warmth, movement, and afternoon light. Pure cotton breathes as no synthetic can, and the floral motif here belongs to a vocabulary older than any single season.
How to style
Wear the full co-ord set to a daytime terrace brunch, keeping accessories minimal: a pair of oxidised silver jhumkas and flat Kolhapuri chappals let the print lead. For an evening gathering, layer a fine hand-embroidered Lucknawi dupatta in ivory over the kaftan top and swap sandals for block-heeled mojris in tan leather. If worn separately, pair the printed trousers with a plain white cotton kurta and a woven Banjara belt. Gold-tone drop earrings in a circular motif complement the honey base particularly well across all three interpretations.
Fabric & care
Machine wash on a gentle cold cycle, or better still, hand-wash in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent. Pure cotton fibres weaken under prolonged hot-water exposure, so avoid it entirely. Do not wring; press out water gently and dry flat in shade to prevent the honey-yellow from fading or greying in direct sun. Iron on a medium-cotton setting while the fabric is still faintly damp for a clean finish. Store folded, not hung, to preserve the fabric's weight and prevent shoulder distortion over time.
