Handspun Fine Muslin Khadi
Machine or hand-wash cold, inside out. Air-dry in shade. Iron on medium heat. Wash with similar colours the first time.
Behind this piece
Khadi muslin carries the memory of a nation. Spun on the charkha by hand, this fine cotton cloth traces its lineage to the swadeshi movement, when homespun fabric became an act of dignified resistance. The finest muslin traditions are rooted in Bengal and parts of Uttar Pradesh, where cotton is drawn into threads of extraordinary delicacy. Each metre holds the particular tension of a human hand, no machine can replicate it. The slight irregularities you will find in the weave are not flaws; they are the signature of the maker, pressed quietly into cloth.
How to style
Wear this muslin as an unstitched dupatta draped over a handloom cotton kurta in ivory or terracotta for an effortless daytime aesthetic. For an evening occasion, stitch it into a relaxed kurta silhouette and pair with oxidised silver jhumkas and flat Kolhapuri chappals. A third reading: layer a full length piece over a linen co-ord set as a sheer wrap, and anchor the look with a single strand of unpolished rudraksha beads. This fabric suits morning weddings, literary evenings, craft exhibitions, and any space where restraint reads as confidence.
Fabric & care
Hand wash in cold water with a gentle, pH-neutral soap; never wring or twist the fabric. Muslin khadi is particularly sensitive to alkaline detergents, which can weaken the handspun fibres over time. Rinse thoroughly and dry flat in shade, avoiding direct sunlight, which causes fine cotton to yellow and lose its soft hand. Iron on a low cotton setting while slightly damp to ease any creasing. Store folded in a clean cotton muslin bag rather than plastic, which traps moisture. Treated with care, this cloth only grows more characterful with each wash.
