Behind this piece
Banaras has woven paisley into its grammar of silk for centuries. The boteh motif, that teardrop curve believed to trace the form of a mango or a cypress bent by wind, arrived in the Gangetic weaving ateliers through Mughal patronage and never left. Here, on a fluid polySilk ground in deep, considered green, the pattern is rendered in zari-toned golden thread, following the same interlocking logic that Banarasi karigars have passed between generations on handlooms lining the narrow lanes of Madanpura and Peeli Kothi.
How to style
Cut this fabric into an unstitched anarkali and pair it with antique gold jhumkas for a Diwali gathering. Alternatively, commission a classic straight-cut kurta and layer it under a warm ivory pashmina for winter evenings at the club. For a contemporary reading, have a blouse stitched from this yardage to accompany a tissue silk saree in champagne or ivory. Gold kolhapuris or block-heeled sandals in tan leather complete each look with the quiet confidence the cloth already carries.
Fabric & care
PolySilk holds its lustre well but rewards careful handling. Hand wash in cold water using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, keeping agitation minimal to protect the woven zari-toned thread. Do not wring; press the water out gently and dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can shift the green over time. Iron on a low-heat synthetic setting with a pressing cloth placed between the iron and the fabric surface. Store loosely rolled in a soft muslin cloth rather than folded, to prevent permanent crease lines along the golden motifs.
