the story,

Behind this piece

Sozni, the needle art of Kashmir, traces its lineage to the Mughal ateliers that once shaped the aesthetic of an entire subcontinent. Worked on pure tusha wool, the finest grade spun from the undercoat of the Himalayan pashmina goat, this fabric carries the signatures of Kashmiri karigars who spend months completing a single length. The paisleys here follow the buta tradition, each teardrop form outlined with minute stitching in thread so fine it disappears into the weave. The double shading in green and meadow gives the cloth a living, shifting quality that flat photography never fully captures.

to wear it,

How to style

For a winter wedding or a literary salon, wear this as a classic straight kurta over a deep ivory or ecru churidar, letting the embroidery surface quietly. A raw silk dupatta in forest green keeps the palette grounded. For daywear, consider a Nehru-collar anarkali silhouette over straight trousers, finished with juttis in antique gold leather. If the occasion calls for jewellery, reach for silver filigree from Odisha or simple uncut emerald drops set in gold, both of which echo the meadow tones without competing with the Sozni needlework running across the fabric.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure tusha wool requires the attentiveness it deserves. Hand wash in cold water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent formulated for wool or silk. Never wring or twist the fabric. Support its full weight when lifting it from water, then press between two clean towels to remove moisture. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which will fade the thread colour over time. Store folded, not hung, wrapped in a soft cotton muslin cloth inside a dry drawer. Cedar blocks placed nearby will discourage moths without the chemical residue that damages fine wool fibres over seasons of storage.
