the story,

Behind this piece

Bangalore's silk-weaving tradition draws from centuries of Deccan courtly patronage, when the city served as a staging ground for textiles moving between Mysore's royal looms and the wider world. This saree carries that lineage in its structure: an all-over zari floral vine worked into art silk, a fabric that captures light with the generosity of mulberry silk at a more accessible weight. The gossamer-pink ground is not incidental; pale rose was a colour favoured in south Indian festive weaving precisely because it holds metallic thread without competing with it.

to wear it,

How to style

For a garden wedding or a daytime puja, drape this in the Nivi style and pair it with a raw-silk blouse in ivory or antique gold, letting the zari carry all the ornament. Evening occasions invite a deeper contrast: a wine-coloured velvet blouse and oxidised silver jhumkas ground the delicacy of the pink without overwhelming it. For a contemporary interpretation, wear it pre-stitched with a fitted turtleneck in champagne, add block-heeled kolhapuris in tan leather, and keep the wrist bare. The vine motif reads beautifully at every distance.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk is a cellulose-based fibre, typically viscose, and it weakens considerably when wet. Dry-clean this saree for the first several wears to preserve the zari's integrity and the fabric's drape. If hand-washing at home, use cold water with a mild detergent, never wring or twist, and dry flat in shade away from direct sunlight. Once fully dry, fold along established creases and store between layers of unbleached muslin. Avoid plastic bags, which trap moisture. A single camphor block nearby discourages insects without leaving residue on the zari.
