about the piece,

Description

The sacred syllable rendered in gold, carrying centuries of devotion into the present moment. Worked on fine cambric cloth, this patch brings together two distinct vocabularies of Indian embroidery: the reflective shimmer of sequins and the raised, coiling weight of zardozi metalwork. Zardozi, a tradition rooted in the royal ateliers of Lucknow and latterly practised across the craft corridors of Uttar Pradesh, employs fine metal threads and wire to build texture that catches light from every angle. The Om symbol at its centre is precise and deliberate, the gold tones warm rather than brash, befitting an emblem of such spiritual gravity. Cambric, with its close weave and smooth hand, holds the dense metalwork without puckering, making it an honest foundation for this kind of concentrated embellishment. At a free size, it adapts readily to a range of applications. Stitch it onto the centre back of a raw silk kurta or position it at the heart of a dupatta border for a quiet, devotional accent. It also finds a natural place on festive cushion covers, where its lustre deepens under warm interior light.

the story,

Behind this piece

Zardozi, the art of stitching with gold-wrapped thread, arrived in the subcontinent through Persian courtly traditions and found its deepest roots in Lucknow and Bhopal, where craftspeople refined it into a language of light. This patch renders the Om symbol, one of the oldest sonic and visual expressions of the sacred, in a union of zardozi metalwork and sequin placement on cambric. The sequins catch and scatter light the way temple lamps do at dusk. The result is not embellishment alone; it is devotional geometry, executed by hands trained in a centuries-old grammar of gold.

to wear it,

How to style

Sew or pin this patch at the centre-back hem of an ivory kurta for a Diwali gathering, letting the gold speak quietly against plain fabric. On a silk dupatta draped over one shoulder, it becomes a focal point; pair with Kolhapuri chappals and uncut ruby drops. For a contemporary reading, place it on the breast pocket of a structured indigo angarakha worn over cigarette trousers, and finish with oxidised silver bangles. The patch suits both festive occasions and curated everyday dressing, wherever a considered detail matters more than surface decoration.

to last,

Fabric & care

Cambric is a tightly woven cotton base that tolerates careful handling but demands respect for its metallic embroidery. Do not machine-wash. Hand-wash only if necessary, using cold water and a mild soap, keeping the embroidered surface face-down on a clean cloth. The safest course is dry cleaning, which protects the zardozi threads and sequin adhesion from moisture damage. Never wring or twist. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can dull gold-wrapped threads over time. Store flat or rolled inside muslin, never folded sharply along the embroidery line.

Each piece is hand-picked from artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Some are handloomed on traditional pit looms, others use block-printing, hand-embroidery, or heritage techniques passed down through generations. Small irregularities are part of the character — not a defect.
