the story,

Behind this piece

Jamdani is among the oldest continuous weaving traditions on the subcontinent, its roots traced to the looms of Dhaka and the banks of the Meghna and Brahmaputra rivers, where Muslim weavers once produced cloth so fine it was called "woven air." Bengal's Jamdani weavers work on a pit loom, inserting supplementary weft threads by hand to build each boti motif individually into the ground cloth. This dupatta carries that lineage into a golden-haze cotton, its scattered bootis emerging from the weave with the quiet confidence of a craft that has survived empires and continues to matter.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear this dupatta draped loosely over a white or ivory cotton kurta set for a literary festival or a curated Sunday outing, grounded with Kolhapuri sandals and small terracotta studs. For a wedding day-event, pair it with a silk tissue kurta in deep ochre and finish with gold jhumkas. It also works beautifully pinned across a raw-silk blouse and paired with a handloom mangalgiri trouser; here, the golden warmth of the Jamdani reads as considered dressing rather than occasion wear, making it appropriate for cultural evenings and gallery openings alike.

to last,

Fabric & care

Cotton Jamdani is a living textile and rewards gentle handling. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent; never soak for longer than five minutes, as prolonged immersion weakens the supplementary-weft bootis over time. Do not wring. Lift the dupatta and press out water between two clean towels, then dry flat in shade to prevent the weave from distorting. Iron on a medium setting while slightly damp, on the reverse side. Store folded in soft muslin, away from direct light, to preserve the warmth of the cotton and the clarity of the woven pattern.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
