the story,

Behind this piece

Bangalore has long been the quiet capital of India's power-loom silk weaving, a city where the industrial and the ornamental have always coexisted. This saree draws on that tradition: the wide floral border is rendered in zari, the metallic thread work that traces its lineage to the gold-thread weavers of Surat and Varanasi, here adapted into the Bangalore idiom. Art silk carries zari's weight elegantly, allowing the gilded motifs to catch light without the heaviness of pure mulberry. The gilded-beige ground is neither ivory nor gold, but something between, like late-afternoon light on old stone.

to wear it,

How to style

For a formal afternoon gathering, pair this saree with a sleeveless raw-silk blouse in deep champagne and kundan drop earrings. The wide zari border holds its own against minimal adornment. For a festive evening, a full-sleeved brocade blouse in copper or bronze deepens the gilded palette beautifully. Finish with block-heeled mojris in tan leather. For a corporate occasion with cultural resonance, try a structured boat-neck blouse in cream, pearl studs, and strappy block heels. The restrained ground colour makes it versatile across skin tones and lighting.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk is a cellulose-based fibre and responds poorly to machine agitation. Hand wash in cold water using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, keeping the zari border away from prolonged soaking to prevent tarnishing. Do not wring; press between two dry towels to remove moisture. Dry flat in shade, never in direct sunlight, which dulls the metallic threads. Iron on a low setting with a pressing cloth over the zari portions. Store folded in a pure-cotton muslin cloth, away from humidity and synthetic covers, which trap moisture and weaken the weave over time.
