about the piece,

Description

Some silks speak. Georgette whispers. This saree carries the breath of the Kashmir Valley in every looping stitch, its border worked entirely in the chain stitch aari technique, a needle craft that has shaped the aesthetic language of Kashmiri textiles for centuries. The aari hook, guided by a craftsperson's trained hand, pulls thread into fluid floral motifs that seem to bloom rather than be embroidered, each petal curving with an ease that belies the patience behind it. Georgette, weightless and subtly luminous, lends the composition a drapery that moves with the body rather than against it. Available in dazzling blue, twilight blue, and a composed jet black, each colourway deepens the florals differently, the blues giving the embroidery an almost aquatic shimmer, the black drawing every thread into sharper relief. For an evening of understated ceremony, pair this with a fine silk blouse in ivory or antique gold, and let the border carry the visual weight. A pair of Kashmiri silver earrings would honour the saree's origins without competing with its quiet intricacy.

the story,

Behind this piece

Aari embroidery takes its name from the hooked needle, the aari, that Kashmiri craftsmen have wielded for centuries across the vale. Chain stitch floral motifs on this georgette saree draw from a tradition refined under Mughal patronage, where gardens of chinars and lotus blooms were translated into thread on silk and later on lighter grounds. The border carries that same unhurried hand, each petal locked in continuous chain loops that give the line its characteristic raised relief. This is needlework from the foothills of the Himalayas, carrying altitude and patience in equal measure.

to wear it,

How to style

For an evening reception, pair the Dazzling Blue with a sleeveless raw-silk blouse in ivory and kundan drop earrings. The Jet Black variant, worn with a boat-neck velvet blouse and oxidised silver cuffs, suits a literary evening or a gallery opening. Twilight Blue asks for something understated: a plain organza blouse in pale grey and kolhapuri block-heeled sandals in tan leather. Across all three colourways, a low bun with a jasmine string keeps the focus on the embroidered border without competing with the delicate chain-stitch florals.

to last,

Fabric & care

Georgette is a crepe-weave fabric that relaxes under water and loses its grain if handled roughly. Dry-clean this saree after every second or third wear to preserve the tension of the aari embroidery. If hand-washing is necessary, use cold water and a mild, pH-neutral detergent; never wring or twist. Press on reverse with a cool iron and a thin cotton cloth placed between the iron and the fabric. Store loosely rolled in a soft muslin cloth, away from direct light, to prevent the dyes from fading and the chain stitches from snagging.
