Behind this piece
Bangalore has long held a quiet authority in India's silk-weaving geography. While Kanchipuram commands reverence for its temple silks, Bangalore's looms developed a distinct vocabulary: lighter, more fluid fabrics suited to the city's cosmopolitan temperament. Art silk, a lustrous viscose-based yarn, allowed weavers to render the grandeur of zari jaal at a more accessible weight. The all-over floral jaal on this saree follows a tradition of interlocking repeat motifs borrowed from Mughal garden imagery, translated through the Deccan weaver's eye into something altogether more restrained, more contemporary in its frosted, almond-toned palette.
How to style
For a winter wedding reception, pair this saree with a full-sleeved raw-silk blouse in ivory or pale champagne and pearl-drop earrings with gold settings. At a cultural evening or arts gathering, a sleeveless blouse in deep bronze brings the zari alive under warm lighting. For Diwali at a family home, wear it with a low chignon, glass bangles in gold-flecked cream, and block-heeled juttis in tan leather. The frosted almond ground is forgiving across skin tones and works beautifully with both polki jewellery and minimalist contemporary gold.
Fabric & care
Art silk, being a viscose-based fibre, is sensitive to prolonged water contact. Dry-clean this saree to preserve the integrity of the zari weave and the body of the fabric. If hand-washing becomes necessary, use cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent; never wring or twist. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can yellow the zari threads over time. Store folded in a soft muslin cloth, avoiding plastic covers that trap moisture. Refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease marks on the zari border.
