the story,

Behind this piece

Pochampally, a village in Telangana's Nalgonda district, is the heartland of Indian ikat. Here, the resist-dyeing of threads precedes the loom entirely: weavers bind and dye yarn in precise sequences before a single shuttle moves, so that the finished cloth seems to bloom with colour from within. This frost-gray cotton-silk fabric carries that discipline in every centimetre. The characteristic soft blur at each motif's edge is not imprecision; it is the signature of authentic ikat, the honest record of dye meeting fibre. Pochampally received a Geographical Indication tag in 2005, affirming a tradition woven across generations.

to wear it,

How to style

Cut this fabric into an unlined, collarless kurta and let the geometric ikat surface do the work. Pair it with ivory cotton palazzo trousers for a considered daytime look suited to gallery openings or literary events. For a sharper silhouette, have a tailored blazer stitched and wear it over a silk camisole with straight trousers. The frost-gray ground welcomes oxidised silver jewellery beautifully, particularly Kondapalli or Dhokra-inspired pieces. Complete each look with tan leather kolhapuris or block-heeled juttis. The cotton-silk drape holds structure without stiffness, making it equally comfortable in air-conditioned interiors and mild evenings outdoors.

to last,

Fabric & care

Cotton-silk blends ask for calm handling. Hand wash in cool water using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, keeping the soak brief to protect the silk component from weakening. Do not wring; press the fabric between two dry towels to remove excess water. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can shift the ikat dye over time. Iron on a medium setting while slightly damp, on the reverse side. Store folded with acid-free tissue rather than hung, to prevent the silk fibres from stretching at the fold lines. Handled with care, this fabric will reward you across many years of wearing.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
