about the piece,

Description

A border can tell a whole story before the wearer speaks a word. From the workshops of Amritsar, a city long celebrated for its textile trade and its instinct for ornamentation, this dupatta arrives finished with a carefully applied patch border that frames the drape in quiet ceremony. The fabric is art silk, chosen for its luminous surface and the way it holds colour with a certain generosity, making each shade, from Caviar Black to Spring Bud to the deep warmth of Rococo Red, feel considered rather than accidental. The patch border technique, common to the embellished textile traditions of Punjab, involves attaching pre-worked decorative strips to the edge of the cloth, a process that gives the border a layered, almost sculptural presence. Across eleven colours, the piece adapts with ease, moving between festive occasions and everyday ceremony without effort. Wear it loosely over a salwar kameez for a relaxed afternoon gathering, letting the border catch the light as it falls. For a more polished moment, arrange it across the shoulder so the patch detailing frames the neckline with intention.

the story,

Behind this piece

Amritsar has long been a city of generous craft. Its textile tradition, shaped by generations of karigars schooled in the Punjabi embroidery arts, produced work that was never merely decorative but deeply intentional. The patch border technique seen here draws from a regional vocabulary of applied work, where separately embellished strips are hand-attached to fabric edges with exacting care. Art silk, lustrous and light-draping, was chosen to carry this embellishment without weighing the finished piece. Available across eleven colours, each dupatta reflects the atelier's discipline of restraint: ornament placed precisely, never in excess.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape the Bittersweet or Rococco Red over a cream Lucknowi kurta for a Diwali gathering; the patch border will frame the neckline beautifully. Pair Patriot Blue or Vivid Blue with a white cotton salwar suit and silver jhumkas for a daytime function. The Caviar Black moves elegantly into evening wear, layered over a silk kurta with block-heeled mojris and oxidised silver cuffs. Spring Bud and Silver Fern suit festive brunches when worn with printed anarkalis, letting the bordered edge trail softly against the forearm for quiet, composed effect.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk rewards gentleness. Hand-wash separately in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, using light pressing motions rather than wringing, which can distort the weave and loosen the patch border's attachment. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear. Roll in a soft cotton towel to remove excess moisture, then dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which fades the dye over time. Store folded loosely in muslin or a breathable cotton cover. Avoid plastic bags, which trap humidity and cause the fabric to yellow. Press on a low heat setting with a pressing cloth between iron and surface.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
