the story,

Behind this piece

Amritsar has long been a crossroads of textile ambition, where Punjabi craft traditions absorbed Kashmiri influences and made them their own. The Kani motif, originally woven on tapestry looms in the Kanihama valley, here travels into print, translating the language of flowering chinar and curving boteh onto the fluid surface of modal. The diamond weave structure, geometric and quietly hypnotic, is a signature of the region's shawl-weaving ateliers, where jacquard sensibility meets commercial precision. Together, pattern and weave produce something genuinely considered: a stole that carries the memory of two craft traditions at once.

to wear it,

How to style

Drape this stole over a cream Lucknowi chikankari kurta for a Sunday brunch or literary gathering, letting the multicolour florals do the quiet work. For evening, fold it lengthwise and layer it over a fitted silk blouse with wide-leg palazzo trousers; pair with oxidised silver jhumkas and kolhapuri flats for effortless elegance. Western dressing welcomes it too: knot it loosely at the neck over a white linen shirt with tapered trousers, and let it replace a scarf entirely. The lightweight modal means it travels without bulk, making it genuinely versatile across seasons and occasions.

to last,

Fabric & care

Modal is a semi-synthetic cellulosic fibre, breathable and remarkably soft, but it rewards gentle handling. Hand wash in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, using light swirling motions rather than wringing or scrubbing. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear. To dry, lay the stole flat on a clean cotton towel, reshape it gently, and keep it away from direct sunlight, which can fade printed pigments over time. Once dry, store folded in a cotton muslin bag, never compressed under heavy garments. A cool iron on low heat, with a pressing cloth between iron and fabric, preserves its sheen indefinitely.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
