Behind this piece
The temple border is among the oldest decorative vocabularies in South Indian textile tradition. Found across Tamil Nadu and parts of Andhra Pradesh, it traces its geometry to the gopuram friezes and processional corridor carvings of Dravidian temples. The veshti, as it is known in Tamil, has dressed men through naming ceremonies, weddings, and festival mornings for centuries. This set renders that sacred border in viscose, a fibre that carries the luminosity of silk without its weight, making it a considered choice for long ceremonial hours. Sold over four hundred times across India, it holds quiet, earned approval.
How to style
For a Tamil or Telugu wedding, pair the Double Cream set with a raw silk kurta in sandal or ivory and finish with a Kanchipuram silk angavastram folded at the shoulder. Add Kolhapuri sandals in tan leather. For a festival morning at the temple, the Snow White veshti worn simply with a white cotton kurta is entirely correct. For a reception or cultural evening, the Blazing Yellow or Mock Orange brings warmth; anchor it with a plain silk shirt in deep burgundy and wear silver toe rings and kolhapuri flats.
Fabric & care
Viscose responds poorly to rough handling when wet, as the fibre weakens considerably in that state. Wash this dhoti and veshti set by hand in cold water using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent. Never wring or twist. Support the full weight of the fabric when lifting from water and lay it flat or hang it over a wide rail to dry away from direct sunlight, which yellows the lighter colourways. Iron on a low setting while slightly damp. Store folded in a clean cotton muslin cloth, away from moisture, to preserve the border's sharpness across many wearings.
