SaleBehind this piece
The dhoti and angavastram set belongs to a tradition older than most textile archives can trace. Woven in pure cotton, its border follows the logic of the pit loom, where supplementary weft threads are lifted by hand to create a repeating geometric rhythm at the edge of the cloth. This technique is practised across the Deccan and southern weaving belts, where cotton has always been the preferred fibre for ritual and ceremony. The angavastram, draped across the shoulder, completes what the dhoti begins: a grammar of dressing that requires no embellishment beyond the loom's own mark.
How to style
For a temple visit or family puja, pair the White Swan set with a plain off-white cotton kurta and Kolhapuri chappals in natural leather. For a wedding reception, choose Tango Red or Amethyst and layer with a raw silk bandhgala in ivory, fastened with antique silver buttons. On a warm afternoon occasion, the Aqua Sea or Turquoise variant reads beautifully with a short-sleeved cotton nehru collar shirt. Across all three looks, keep jewellery minimal: a single gold chain or a rudraksha mala completes the composition without competing with the woven border.
Fabric & care
Hand wash separately in cold water during the first three washes, as pure cotton borders may release surface sizing. Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent and avoid soaking for longer than ten minutes. Do not wring; instead, press out water gently and dry flat in shade to preserve the border's geometry. Iron on medium heat while the cloth is still slightly damp, working along the length of the fabric. Fold along the original press lines and store in a cool, dry place. With correct care, pure cotton only improves: it softens, breathes better, and holds its colour across years of wear.
