the story,

Behind this piece

The dhoti and angavastram set draws from one of South India's most enduring textile traditions, where ceremonial menswear has long been defined by the weight of its border and the sheen of its cloth. Art silk, a woven viscose with the lustre of pure mulberry silk, carries this legacy forward with considered practicality. The wide golden border, rendered in zari-toned thread, echoes the temple-town aesthetic of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, where such sets are considered essential to ritual dressing, from griha pravesh ceremonies to festival mornings at the family threshold.

to wear it,

How to style

For a temple visit or festival puja, pair the Ivory or Cream colourway with a plain white cotton kurta and traditional Kolhapuri chappals in natural tan. For a wedding reception as a guest, choose Garnet or Claret Red and layer a fine Pashmina stole in complementary champagne tones across the shoulder. The angavastram doubles as a drape when the occasion demands formality. Complete the look with oxidised silver or gold-toned temple jewellery, particularly a broad kada. Proud Peacock and Dazzling Blue suit evening mandap ceremonies especially well.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk is viscose-based and responds poorly to rough handling or prolonged soaking. Hand wash each piece separately in cold water using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent, and never wring or twist the fabric. Rinse once and press flat against a clean surface before drying in shade. Iron on a low, silk-appropriate setting while the cloth remains slightly damp, using a pressing cloth to protect the golden border. Store folded along original creases, wrapped in soft muslin, away from direct sunlight, which will dull the border's lustre over repeated exposure.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
