the story,

Behind this piece

The paisley, known in the subcontinent as *kairi* or the mango motif, carries centuries of courtly memory. Its teardrop curve appeared on Mughal textiles, Kashmiri shawls, and Banarasi brocades long before it travelled westward and acquired a Scottish name. Here, the motif is rendered in metallic thread embroidery on fluid chiffon, each paisley catching light the way zardozi work does on a lamp-lit evening. The patch border grounds the drape with architectural intent. Three colourways, Dark Green, Faience Blue, and Grape Royal, echo the jewel-toned palettes of princely court miniatures.

to wear it,

How to style

For a festive evening, pair the Grape Royal colourway with a raw-silk blouse in antique gold and kundan drop earrings. The Faience Blue reads beautifully at daytime weddings with a pearl choker and block-heeled kolhapuris. Dark Green suits formal dinners worn with a deep-cut velvet blouse, emerald studs, and minimal bangles. All three colourways drape well in a contemporary pre-stitched style for those who prefer ease without sacrificing elegance. A thin gold belt at the waist elevates the metallic embroidery without competing with it.

to last,

Fabric & care

Chiffon is a woven weave of high-twist crêpe yarns, fine and unforgiving of rough handling. Dry-clean this saree after each occasion-wear outing. If hand-washing is necessary, use cold water with a mild pH-neutral detergent; never wring or scrub near the embroidered paisleys, as metallic thread can snag and distort. Roll loosely in a cotton muslin cloth to remove moisture. Store flat or folded in a cotton saree bag, away from direct light, which fades chiffon quickly. Tissue paper between folds prevents the metallic thread from transferring onto adjacent fabric layers.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
