the story,

Behind this piece

Bangalore has long been the quiet custodian of pure silk weaving in South India, distinct from the louder renown of Kanchipuram yet no less rigorous in its craft. This saree draws on that tradition: a field of desert-flower motifs woven directly into the silk body, meeting a contrast wide border carrying the peacock-temple pattern, one of the oldest architectural motifs in Indian loom vocabulary. The peacock, sacred to Karnataka's artistic heritage, appears here not as embellishment but as structure, built thread by thread into the very foundation of the textile.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear this saree in the classic Nivi drape for a formal occasion, pairing it with a fitted raw-silk blouse in the border's contrast colour. For a literary festival or cultural evening, try a half-saree-style drape with a handblock-printed cotton blouse, letting the border do its work. A temple wedding calls for antique gold Kempstone jewellery and Kolhapuri heels in tan leather. The desert-flower body rewards restraint: keep accessories architectural rather than layered, and allow the woven motifs their rightful prominence against your silhouette.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure silk is a protein fibre requiring deliberate handling. Dry-clean this saree for the first wash to set the woven border's tension. If hand-washing subsequently, use cold water with a capful of mild, pH-neutral detergent; never wring or twist the cloth. Dry flat in deep shade, away from direct sunlight, which yellows silk irreversibly. Store folded in pure cotton muslin, never plastic. Refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease lines. A small neem sachet in the shelf discourages insects without the harshness of chemical repellents.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
