Behind this piece
Sequin embroidery on georgette carries a lineage rooted in the ateliers of Lucknow and the workshop lanes of Mumbai's Dharavi and Bhuleshwar districts, where karigar families have long translated light into fabric. This all-over embellishment technique, known broadly as sitara work, relies on individually hand-stitched sequins laid in rhythmic patterns across the cloth. The deep navy ground of this georgette suit gives each sequin its maximum luminosity, much as a night sky disciplines a star. Made to order, the piece is constructed to your measurements, honouring the slower, more considered tradition of bespoke Indian dressmaking.
How to style
For a formal evening celebration, pair this suit with antique-finish polki or kundan drop earrings and pointed-toe block heels in nude or champagne. At a winter cocktail gathering, layer a sheer ivory organza cape over the kurta for contrast in texture and temperature. For a festive daytime occasion such as a mehendi or sangeet, keep jewellery minimal: a single gold kada and strappy gold kolhapuri sandals allow the sequin field to remain the focal point. Carry a silk potli clutch in ivory or gold to complete each look without competing with the embroidery.
Fabric & care
Georgette and chiffon are protein-free synthetics that respond poorly to heat and agitation. Dry-clean this suit after every two to three wears to preserve the sequin stitching and prevent thread loosening. If spot-cleaning at home, use cool water and a mild, pH-neutral detergent applied with a soft cloth; never wring or twist the fabric. Air-dry flat, away from direct sunlight, which fades navy tones quickly. Store the suit folded in unbleached muslin or a breathable cotton bag, never in plastic, and place a single fold of acid-free tissue between the embroidered surface and the lining to prevent sequin abrasion.
