about the piece,

Description

There is a particular ease that belongs to open courtyards, slow mornings, and cotton that has never tried too hard. This co-ord set is cut from pure cotton and carries across its surface the unhurried vocabulary of hand block printing, a craft practised across Rajasthan and Gujarat where carved wooden blocks are pressed into natural pigment and then into cloth with a rhythm that no machine can replicate. The floral motifs here recall the folk imagination of these traditions: generous blooms, repeated with quiet confidence, never straining toward ornament. The notch neckline sits with relaxed composure, the silhouette breathes without apology, and the side pockets speak to a sensibility that values function as earnestly as beauty. Pure cotton, in this weight and weave, softens further with every wash, becoming more itself over time. Wear it together as intended, for a Sunday at the farmers market or a long afternoon with good company. Separate the pieces across two outfits: the top with wide-leg linen trousers, the bottom with a simple white kurta tucked in.

the story,

Behind this piece

Block printing on cotton is one of the oldest textile traditions on the Indian subcontinent, with roots traced to the workshops of Bagru and Sanganer in Rajasthan, where artisans have pressed hand-carved wooden blocks into natural dye pastes for centuries. The floral motifs here carry the language of those workshops: unhurried, slightly imperfect at the edges, and alive in ways that machine prints never are. Pure cotton was the chosen ground for this craft long before synthetic fibres arrived, its open weave accepting colour with an honesty that synthetic cloth refuses. That conversation between block and fibre continues in every repeat.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear the co-ord set as intended for a Sunday farmers market or an open-air brunch, then separate the pieces on weekdays. The top pairs well with straight-leg white linen trousers for office hours in warm weather. The bottom works beside a tucked-in white kora cotton kurta for a relaxed evening gathering. For jewellery, reach for oxidised silver earrings with a floral motif, or simple terracotta studs that echo the earthen palette of the print. Flat Kolhapuri chappals complete the look without competing; block-printed cotton deserves footwear that is equally unpretentious.

to last,

Fabric & care

Wash pure cotton block prints in cold water by hand, or use a machine's delicate cycle with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent. Turn the garment inside out before washing to protect the printed surface from abrasion. Avoid soaking for longer than ten minutes, as prolonged immersion can lift natural dyes. Dry in open shade rather than direct sunlight, which fades both the ground cloth and the printed motifs over time. Iron on a medium setting while slightly damp, on the reverse side. Stored folded rather than hung, cotton holds its shape across many seasons of honest wear.

Frequently asked

Each piece is hand-picked from artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Some are handloomed on traditional pit looms, others use block-printing, hand-embroidery, or heritage techniques passed down through generations. Small irregularities are part of the character — not a defect.
