the story,

Behind this piece

Bangalore has long been the quiet fulcrum of India's silk weaving story, a city where power looms learned to speak the language of the handloom. This celadon-green art silk carries that dual inheritance: the zari-woven bootis echo the buteh motifs that travelled from Persia into Mughal court textiles and eventually into the looms of Karnataka. The tree motif border, rooted in the ancient kalpavriksha tradition, frames the pallu with a sense of considered ceremony. Art silk gives the weave a democratic softness, making this vocabulary of heritage available beyond the weight and cost of pure silk.

to wear it,

How to style

For a daytime cultural event or festival lunch, pair this saree with a sleeveless ivory raw-silk blouse and gold Kolhapuri block heels. Let the celadon breathe. For a wedding reception, choose a deep emerald or antique-gold velvet blouse with three-quarter sleeves, and add polki jhumkas and a kundan maang-tikka to honour the zari's shimmer. For a relaxed literary gathering or gallery evening, drape it in a Nivi style with a plain terracotta linen blouse, and finish with oxidised silver bangles, letting the contrast border carry all the visual argument.

to last,

Fabric & care

Art silk is a cellulose-based fibre, neither as forgiving as cotton nor as temperamental as pure silk, so handle it with quiet attention. Hand-wash in cold water using a gentle, pH-neutral liquid detergent; never wring or twist the fabric. Rinse thoroughly and roll in a clean cotton towel to remove excess water. Dry flat in shade to preserve the celadon tone. Do not expose to direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as colour migration can occur. Fold with a layer of muslin between each fold, and store away from moisture and sharp-edged jewellery to protect the zari.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
