the story,

Behind this piece

Chhattisgarh's silk-weaving tradition carries the spiritual vocabulary of its Adivasi heartland, where tribal Devi motifs are not merely ornamental but devotional. Woven on pit looms in communities across the Bastar and Raigarh belts, these figural forms, goddesses, geometric yantras, and stylised sacred icons, have been passed through generations as both textile and offering. The cedar green ground, deep and resinous, is characteristic of the region's affinity for forest-drawn colour. The zari border anchors the weave in ceremonial weight, making this saree a document of faith rendered in silk and gold thread.

to wear it,

How to style

Wear this saree draped in a Chhattisgarhi or Nivi style for a cultural gathering or classical performance evening. Pair it with a raw silk or tussar blouse in warm ivory or deep ochre to let the cedar green breathe. For jewellery, choose oxidised silver tribal pieces, particularly those referencing Bastar dhokra work, which share the same Adivasi design sensibility as the woven motifs. Add hand-hammered silver kolhapuris or flat mojris in tan. For a contemporary occasion, a structured silk blouse with a deep back and a single statement necklace works beautifully.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure silk demands quiet handling. Dry-clean this saree for the first few washes to preserve the integrity of the zari border and woven motifs. If hand-washing, use cool water with a pH-neutral, silk-specific cleanser; never wring or twist the fabric. Dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which fades both the green ground and the gold of the zari over time. Store folded in soft muslin, not plastic, and refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease marks along the silk threads.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
