the story,

Behind this piece

Digital textile printing on pure crepe represents a conversation between inherited Indian colour sensibility and contemporary surface design. The carmine-pink at this fabric's border carries the warmth of sindoor and the festivity of gulal, tones that have coloured Indian ceremonial dress for centuries. Crepe itself, with its subtly crinkled weave structure, has long been favoured by Indian ateliers for its fluid drape and dignified weight. The printed lady motif continues a tradition of figurative textile art seen across block-printed Sanganer fabrics and hand-painted Kalamkari cloth, here rendered with modern precision.

to wear it,

How to style

Cut this fabric into a gathered skirt and pair it with a tucked silk blouse in ivory or deep plum, then wear it to a mehendi or intimate festive lunch. Alternatively, tailor it into a straight kurta and layer over churidar, finishing with oxidised silver earrings and kolhapuri chappals. For a contemporary approach, consider a wrap-style midi dress in the full print, belted at the waist, worn with block-heeled mules and a single gold bangle. The carmine border reads beautifully as a dupatta hem when fabric is used across mixed separates.

to last,

Fabric & care

Pure crepe requires a gentle hand. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, and avoid wringing or twisting the fabric, as the crepe texture is vulnerable to distortion under pressure. Lay flat on a clean towel to dry in shade, away from direct sunlight which can fade the digital print over time. Iron on a low-heat silk setting while the cloth is slightly damp, pressing from the reverse side. Store folded in a muslin cloth rather than plastic, in a cool and dry wardrobe away from moisture.
