Cardamom-Green Chanderi Saree from Madhya Pradesh with Zari-Woven Border and Flowers
Dry clean only. Store folded in a soft muslin pouch away from direct sunlight to keep the sheen alive.
Description
There is a quietness to this green, the cool, unhurried shade of cardamom pods before they are split open. Woven in the Chanderi belt of Madhya Pradesh, this saree belongs to a tradition that has shaped the identity of Indian luxury for centuries. The fabric is pure cotton silk, a marriage of two fibres that gives Chanderi its signature quality: a translucency that catches light without announcing itself, a weight that drapes with effortless grace. Across the border, zari threads have been worked into a continuous rhythm of flowering motifs, each repeat a small declaration of the weaver's patience. The ground of the saree remains an open, breathing expanse of cardamom green, allowing the gold of the zari to register with measured elegance rather than excess. For daytime celebrations such as a puja or a family gathering, pair this saree with an unembellished raw silk blouse in ivory or pale gold. A single strand of polki or uncut gold jewellery will honour the restraint already written into the weave.

Behind this piece
Chanderi has woven cloth for royalty since the fifteenth century, when the town in Madhya Pradesh sat at the crossroads of Malwa and Bundelkhand trade routes. The fabric earns its reputation from a singular combination: cotton warp, silk weft, and the particular luminosity that results from their crossing. This saree carries that lineage in every centimetre of its cardamom-green ground. The zari border and scattered floral motifs follow a tradition of supplementary-weft weaving that Chanderi artisans have refined across generations, producing a cloth that is simultaneously weightless and richly present.
How to style
For a daytime wedding function, pair this saree with a raw silk blouse in antique gold and kolhapuri heels. The pale green ground reads beautifully against oxidised silver jewellery, particularly a choker and cuff combination. For an evening cultural gathering, drape it in the Nivi style and add a chandelier earring in uncut diamonds or polki. A simpler option for a festive office occasion: team it with a fitted ivory cotton blouse, minimal gold studs, and tan leather mules. The zari border carries the occasion without requiring elaborate accessorising.
Fabric & care
Cotton-silk blends require more attentiveness than either fibre alone. Hand-wash in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, keeping the zari border away from prolonged soaking to prevent tarnish. Do not wring; press out water gently between two dry towels. Dry in deep shade, laid flat or on a broad hanger. Iron on a low-heat cotton setting with a thin muslin cloth between iron and fabric, particularly over the zari. Store folded in a soft cotton muslin bag, away from humidity. Refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease marks.
