the story,

Behind this piece

The rectangle has long been a motif of structure and rhythm in Indian textile grammar, appearing in block-printed cottons from Bagru, in the geometric weaves of Pochampally, and in the bold repeat patterns of Ajrakh. This kaftan draws from that same instinct: the idea that geometry, placed with intention, becomes ornament. Printed on rayon, a fabric prized for its fluid drape and its resemblance to silk charmeuse, the black-onyx ground transforms the angular shapes into something almost calligraphic. Made to order, each piece is cut and finished after your confirmation, ensuring nothing is wasted.

to wear it,

How to style

For a daytime gathering, wear this kaftan over straight-cut ivory palazzos and finish with oxidised silver jhumkas. The black ground makes gold Dhokra cuff bracelets read beautifully. On a warm evening, let the kaftan stand alone as a dress, belted loosely with a tan leather band, and pair with flat kolhapuri sandals in tan or cognac. For a diaspora wedding function, layer a sheer organza dupatta in deep plum or forest green across one shoulder, add block-heeled mules, and keep the jewellery minimal: a single statement necklace in carved bone or resin.

to last,

Fabric & care

Rayon is a regenerated cellulose fibre and responds poorly to agitation and heat. Hand wash in cool water using a gentle, pH-neutral detergent. Never wring or twist the fabric; instead, press out water gently between two clean towels. Dry flat in shade to prevent the fibres from stretching under their own weight. Iron on a low setting while the fabric is still slightly damp, using a pressing cloth between the iron and the print to protect the surface. Store folded, not hung, to preserve the garment's shape over time.

Each piece is hand-loomed by artisan clusters we work with directly across India. Small irregularities in the weave are the hallmark of handloom — not a defect.
