the story,

Behind this piece

Polka dots on fabric carry a longer history than their playful reputation suggests. In Indian textile tradition, the bindi-boota motif, small repeated dots scattered across a ground cloth, appears in block-printed cottons from Rajasthan, in Banarasi brocades, and in the resist-dyed traditions of Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. Here, the motif is reinterpreted in georgette, a fabric whose name derives from French couture but whose finest weaves have long been produced in Varanasi. The flared kameez silhouette echoes the anarkali form, a shape with Mughal-era roots, rendered in a monochrome palette that feels entirely of the present moment.

to wear it,

How to style

For daytime occasions, pair this suit with white mojaris and pearl studs to let the monochrome speak cleanly. For an evening gathering, layer a sheer black dupatta over one shoulder and choose oxidised silver jhumkas with a slight drop. The flared kameez also works styled as a dress-length kurta: skip the salwar entirely, add straight-cut black cigarette trousers, a structured black potli bag, and block-heeled sandals. All three approaches rely on restraint; the geometric print does the work, and accessories should frame rather than compete with the pattern.

to last,

Fabric & care

Georgette is a twisted-crepe weave that holds its drape only when treated gently. Hand-wash in cool water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent, and never wring or twist the fabric. Support the full weight of the wet garment when lifting it from the water. Roll it in a clean cotton towel to remove excess moisture, then hang-dry in shade away from direct sunlight, which yellows white georgette over time. Iron on a low setting with a pressing cloth between iron and fabric. Store folded in breathable muslin, never in plastic, to preserve the fabric's soft handle for years.
