Behind this piece
Banaras has woven silk for over two thousand years, and within that long continuum, the Kasim family carries a quieter chapter: the hand-woven floral border. Here, roses are not printed or embroidered after the fact. They are built thread by thread on the loom, each petal a decision made in weaving. The pairing of pure silk with jute is a considered one, lending the drape a subtle earthiness that offsets silk's natural luminosity. Black absorbs. Beige reflects. Together they hold the border's roses in a tension that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in Banarasi tradition.
How to style
Wear this sari with a full-sleeved raw silk blouse in ivory or warm camel to echo the beige ground. The jute texture makes this appropriate for a cultural evening, a literary gathering, or a refined festive occasion that does not demand embellishment. Keep jewellery restrained: oxidised silver or matte gold earrings work better than anything elaborate. A thin gold bangle or two is sufficient. Ground the look with kolhapuri block-heeled sandals in tan leather, or classic black pointed-toe heels for a more urban register. Avoid heavy dupatta additions; the sari is complete as it stands.
Fabric & care
Pure silk woven with jute requires gentle handling. Dry-clean is strongly recommended for the first two washes to preserve the border's structural integrity. If hand-washing, use cold water with a pH-neutral detergent and never wring. Lay flat on a clean cotton towel to dry away from direct sunlight, which fades black silk quickly. Store folded in soft muslin, not plastic, to allow the fibres to breathe. Refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease marks. A small neem sachet nearby will discourage insects without introducing moisture or chemical damage.
