the story,

Behind this piece

Bandhani is one of India's oldest resist-dyeing traditions, practised for centuries across the Kutch and Saurashtra regions of Gujarat by Khatri artisans who have inherited the craft through generations of family knowledge. Each dot is tied by hand before dyeing, the fabric bound with such precision that the resist holds even through multiple colour baths. This set pairs that ancient tying process with hand-applied mirror embroidery and multicolour threadwork, two embellishments native to the region's festive textile vocabulary. The result is cotton that carries memory in every gathered circle of colour.

to wear it,

How to style

Stitch the fabric as a straight-cut kurta with wide palazzo trousers in undyed natural cotton, letting the Festival Fuchsia or Mars Red speak without competition. For a wedding function, pair with antique silver Kutchi oxidised jewellery and kolhapuri heels. For a more composed daywear reading, layer a cropped tailored jacket over the kurta and finish with tan leather juttis. The dupatta can be draped loose over one shoulder or pinned at the wrist as a trailing sleeve accent. Each approach works because the textile is already its own argument.

to last,

Fabric & care

Hand-wash this pure cotton fabric separately in cold water with a gentle, pH-neutral detergent before its first use, as resist-dyed textiles may release trace colour. Do not scrub or wring. Rinse thoroughly and dry flat in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can fade bandhani pigments over time. Press on the reverse side using a warm iron, avoiding the mirror embellishments entirely. Store folded in a soft muslin cloth rather than a plastic bag, allowing the cotton to breathe. Treated with this care, the fabric will hold its depth and structure across many years of wearing.
