Banarasi Sari with Zari Woven Pallu and Border
Dry clean only. Store folded in a soft muslin pouch away from direct sunlight to keep the sheen alive.
Description
Some silks carry the memory of a city in every thread, and Banaras is a city that has never stopped remembering. Woven in the tradition of Varanasi's celebrated karkhanas, this art silk sari bears the hallmark of the city's enduring zari vocabulary: a richly worked pallu where gold-toned threads rise in relief against the ground, and a border that frames the drape with the composed authority of a classical composition. Art silk lends the weave a luminous, fluid hand that moves gracefully and photographs beautifully, making it a considered choice for those who wish to wear heritage without the weight of pure tissue. The three colourways, Green Briar, Raspberry Sorbet, and True Navy, each interpret the zari differently; the navy deepens the gold to something almost architectural, while the raspberry lets it sing openly. This is a sari suited to festive gatherings, wedding ceremonies, and the kind of cultural occasions where dressing with intention matters. Pair it with a contrast silk blouse in ivory or deep burgundy, and let unadorned gold jewellery from Rajasthan or Bengal complete the register.

Behind this piece
Banaras has been weaving its name into the fabric of Indian ceremony for over five centuries. The zari tradition, carried forward by the Ansari weaving communities of Varanasi, involves interlacing metallic threads into silk to create patterns that catch light as if lit from within. This sari arrives in four considered colours, from the deep warmth of Ember Glow to the formal quietude of True Navy, each one a canvas for the pallu and border, where the zari asserts itself with the unhurried confidence of a craft that has never needed to announce itself.
How to style
In Ember Glow, pair this sari with an antique gold choker and kolhapuri heels for a wedding reception. The Green Briar colourway sits beautifully with uncut diamond studs and a raw silk blouse in ivory, suited to a festival morning or a formal lunch. Raspberry Sorbet, the most spirited of the four, rewards a contrast blouse in deep plum and strappy block heels for an evening gathering. True Navy is the choice for office celebrations or cultural events, grounded by silver jhumkas and a crisp white pintuck blouse.
Fabric & care
Art silk carries the visual warmth of pure silk but asks for gentler handling. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent, and never wring or twist the fabric. Rinse once and press between two dry towels to remove excess moisture. Dry in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can fade the zari's lustre over time. Store each sari folded in a soft muslin cloth, not plastic, to allow the fibre to breathe. Refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent crease marks along the border.
